A story of a successful countryman whose family came from small beginnings on the land to great pastoral success, with increasing interest in public affairs as time went on. He was one of the promoters of the conception of the University of New England, and was its Chancellor for the last ten years of his life, although one of the few in Australia who has reached this important position without academic qualifications. Judith Wright is one of his children, world famous for her poetry and writings. With an Afterword by Bruce Mitchell.
