Golden Dreams, Poisoned Streams describes the history, science, environmental problems, and techniques associated with hardrock mining. Hardrock mining encompasses mining for non-fuel materials: metals like gold, silver and copper, minerals like sulfur and phosphate, plus uranium mining. Part I examines the issue of water damage from hardrock mining. It explains the nature of water pollution from hardrock mining, how the damage occurs, the scope and costs of the problem how pollution can be prevented and cleaned up, and what needs to be done to protect our water resources from future degradation. Part II examines the issue more deeply; it is a collection of technical papers about water damage from mining authored by scientists and regulatory experts.
