"Wooden Wheel Clockmaking" deals with the principals and technical aspects of wooden wheel clockmaking and it gives a history of wooden wheel clocks and information about early Black Forest clockmaking and marketing. This 270-page soft-cover book has 75,000 words and is copiously illustrated with colour photographs and black and white drawings. The book does not give step-by-step instruction on how to make a wooden wheel clock; however, full descriptions of a regulator clock, a verge and foliot clock, a musical clock playing on glass bells, an American banjo clock, and a spring-driven Art Deco clock are given. In addition, there is a section giving sources for wooden wheel clock plans. There is also comprehensive information on clock woods and the effect of humidity on wooden wheel clocks. The book is well referenced with a bibliography and full index. This guide to wooden wheel clockmaking has been written for the beginner to the advanced clockmaker, as well the collector and conservator. It provides technical information about wooden wheel clocks that is not to be found in other books and it gives the reader an insight into the ingenious people who created these remarkable clocks.
